North Sulawesi - Bunaken National Park

For several years now, North Sulawesi has been a “must go” for underwater enthusiasts because it is one of the most diverse diving areas in the world.
Touched by the “Indonesian Throughflow”, which moves masses of water carrying nutrition around the globe, it is home to well over 2000 varieties of fish and around 60 species of coral in the Bunaken area alone.
The figure becomes even higher when you venture out to the more remote sites like Bangka Archipelago and the Lembeh Strait which boasts indigenous species.
North Sulawesi consists of basically four different dive areas – Bunaken National Park north side with the islands Bunaken, Siladen, Manado Tua, Mantehague, Nain and Nain Kecil; additional 12 km of shore line; Bunaken south side with Popooh, furthermore the Bangka Archipelago and the Lembeh Strait.
There are well over 150 dive sites and suitable for any level of experience.
With Thalassa Dive Centre, over 10 years old and run by Simone Gerritsen, Melali has selected one of the most professional and reliable operators in the area.
Each dive guide is well acquainted with the area and accompanies four divers maximum. There are two boat dives per day; when the diving sites are close to the centre there is a lunch break in between. A tasty, home cooked lunch, soft drinks, coffee, tea and delicious home made cakes await the hungry diver after their dives and are included in the package.
When venturing to more remote areas, lunch is served on the boat including soft drinks.
All boats are equipped with first-aid kit, oxygen supply, spare parts, fresh water containers for cameras and also offer the luxury of a towel service, packing and transporting your dive gear between dive centre and boat.
A “repair shop” is able to help the diver if equipment fails, a commodity not to be found at every dive centre.

Connected to Thalassa Dive Centre is the “Santika Hotel” with all amenities a hotel of this chain has to offer.
If you seek accommodation in a more private atmosphere, then “Bahowo Lodge” is the place to go. It is run by two British people, Paula Larcher and Phil Boast, whose warm hospitality makes you feel at home. Their home-cooked dinners are exceptional and cater for every taste; just feel free to mention your favourites or special dietary requirements.
